NOM Certification

Certification indicating with NOM and NMX must be issued by the accredited national organization. The Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization, adopted in October 1993, mandated that NOM certification must only be issued to a Mexican entity with proven legal responsibility, such as registration with the Department of Treasury (Secretaria de Hacienda). NOM certificates typically expire within one year from its issue date. The certification issued cannot be transferred from one certificate holder to another. This requirement effectively excludes foreign applicant from obtaining product certification and gives the Mexican authorities a domestic entity to pursue in the event of a dispute.
